The weather is heating up and so is the staffing industry. The ASA staffing index is on the rise, having reached its highest point thus far this year at 95.90 in May. In fact, in the last seven years, the ASA staffing index has risen through the summer. With this as a precedent, staffing companies are bound to be busy in the upcoming months. Read below for four key tips on how to better manage your staff this summer and ensure that this season’s events are pulled off smoothly.
Be prepared for the heat.
Summer brings to mind pool parties, outdoor festivals and events in the sun. However, with temperatures on the rise, it is important to ensure that working conditions remain safe despite the weather and that employees stay hydrated. Large events often require long setup times, which can be dangerous in extreme heat. Installing water stations and giving breaks when the sun is strongest can help prevent heat exhaustion. If temperatures are going to top the charts, setting up during the morning or night can also make your workers’ lives easier.
Avoid black uniforms.
Make sure staff uniforms are as comfortable as possible. Black clothing absorbs all wavelengths of light and converts them into heat. If possible, try a lighter color uniform for outdoor events and shorts instead of pants. Your employees will be much happier, which will be reflected in their performance. Dennis Masel, COO at Creative Circle, notes that for staffing firms, “your most valuable asset is your employees, and they need to know you care about them and that you want to make their lives as balanced as you can.”
Check your location.
Check to see if there are events before or after yours so you know how much time your staff has to prepare for the event or clean up after it ends. If your location is tightly booked, it may be difficult to get everything set up or broken down within the time constraint. Hiring more staff could be essential to getting all your materials in place before guests arrive, if bookings are close.
Mobile can improve your scheduling.
Streamline your workforce management process with mobile solutions. Gigwalk’s mobile technology offers faster, more efficient job matching and enables workers to easily accept or decline jobs, clock hours, and communicate with recruiters. Gigwalk can increase the productivity of your workforce and simplify your staffing needs by easily connecting the right people to the right work. When more than three million temporary and contract employees work for America’s staffing companies during an average week, this efficiency pays off. Eliminate paper timesheets, get real time data about the work being done, and speed up your time to deployment this busy summer season.
